Superficial reality and glitter attraction

Have we recently evolved into superficial inhuman beings or has this always been in ourselves?

At least according to the media, we date on command and fly away from fling to fling, we are denying mother, father and sons for 5 minutes on TV, we dream of traders' bonuses but blame them on the first mistakes, every company is filled with short sighted profit oriented managers without the least care for customer service or decent treatment of human beings..

Whatever happens to love, to lasting friendship, to trust, to poetry, to respect, to tolerance.

I believe we can do both, although I do believe society treats this as a weakness.

I believe we can, if we want, do business and treat our partners, clients and employees with respect and trust. I believe that we can value competence, intelligence and humanity over greed and still make a living and even be successful. And that we can, have relationships or even flings without treating our "partner" as a piece of garbage.

But then what happens when the other party, our boss, our partner, our friends, turn into superficiality and arrogance? Do we in turn do the same or do we bend over and take it?
How should we cope while if we want to keep a shred of integrity and moral dignity?
And, why don't we want to have both?
